Dear readers!

Hopefully you all have had a fantastic Christmas time and are all ready to welcome the new year!

My new year is beginning with some change because I resigned from my day job, which turned into very miserable during this autumn. Tomorrow, on the last day of the year will be also my last day at work and 1st January I'll be a Lady of Leisure (read: unemployed). Very exciting, I say! I've visited a job center only once before, but there it is I'll find myself in the beginning of January...

This autumn has  been very stressful and I haven't had the energy nor time to do much miniature things, but I've certainly enjoyed your woks! I've read various blogs and admired your fantastic skills! So I hope that all of you will keep well and carry on! Thanks for bringing so much happiness into my tiny life!

Hello there!

Today I literally had to drag myself to our miniature workshop... My god! How much darker and shorter can a day get!? Since we got rid of the snow, November is showing its' true nature and it's not pleasant...
Anyway! Because I don't want to think about any miniature stairs building, or anything else too complicated  now, I decided to think and try something smaller instead: armchairs (and perhaps a settee too)!
Some years ago I bought this old miniature armchair. Isn't it an absolute beauty! There was some old (and loose) rattan in/between the armrests and as I took them  away, the armrest broke to pieces of course. Well, that was good, I think, because only then I could really see the beauty of this chair! I just love it and want to use it as a model to my my future miniature house's (living room's) furniture.

Today I also got acquainted with a new machine: jigsaw. What a machine!! I gut four armrests of 4 mm plywood in no time at all and will finish them by dremel at home very soon. I also managed to cut the blade twice within ten minutes so November? Well, it's not too bad after all!

Ensilumi

Indeed! It started to snow in Helsinki this afternoon and it's still snowing and snowing...
This surprising phenomenon surprises us every year, but never mind, Otto the dog enjoyed his afternoon walk! What is this? Can one eat this?
There's also some snow on Mr and Mrs Oiva's balcony obviously. If you look very carefully you may notice that I've managed to get one loose door back to its' place... Well, not quite!! It's ok when closed, but annoyingly loose from the bottom hinge when you try open it. Blessed winter! This is the time to keep our doors closed!

Olen kompastunut portaisiin!

Parahin lukijani on mahdollisesti huomannut, että edellisestä postauksestani on jo aikaa. Rakennusrintamalla on tapahtunut todella vähän ja sekin vähä ei ole ollut pelkkää hyvää.
Sain alkusyksystä parvekkeen kaiteet pysyvästi paikoilleen. Homma vaati vain uuden kerroksen epoksiliimaa ja muutaman ruuvin, hyvä niin, mutta samassa hötäkässä toisen parvekkeenoven saranat irtosivat! Päätin jättää parvekeprojektin lepäämään ja yrittää jotain muuta...

Koska rakennustyöni viimeisiä suuria ponnistuksia ovat portaat, niin tuumasta toimeen! Kaksi kurssi-iltaa kirjaimellisesti istuin pari kalikkaa käsissäni, mallasin ja mallasin, mutta valmista ei syntynyt. Sorruin jopa suunnittelemaan portaiden rakentamista (oheisessa kuvassa aherrukseni helmiä) ja kokeilin lopuksi itselleni täysin vierasta lähetymistapaa: yritin rakentaa pahvimallin tulevista portaista...  Turhaa, ajan hukkaa, portaat eivät mitenkään ottaneet onnistuakseen, joten päätin yrittää jotain muuta...

Vielä on muutama kurssi-ilta ennen joulua ja ajattelin kokeilla jotain uutta. Tarvitsen jossain vaiheessa talooni huonekaluja, joten tuumasta toimeen! Ehkä kokeilen huomenna tuolin tekoa, tai sitten vain syön eväitäni ja ihmettelen maailman menoa...

What you wish for...

It has been the first week of my annual summer vacation. In my previous post I wished for some warmth and indeed we got some! We spent some days at our summer cottage, and please! it wouldn't have to be so hot as it were! And I'm talking about the weather now... Came back home for a day or two but will drive back to the cottage when we are brave enough to face the hot weather again. We feel pity for Otto the dog, he's melting over there, but what can you do...Because the heat seems to have messed up my head completely I can't show what I've built today: forgot my camera to the cottage!

Some warmth, please!

Maybe I mentioned earlier, that the building of my garden hut begun because of this stove? I wanted to use it somehow in my miniature work, but because it's a bit too small for my 1:10 / 1.12 scale house, I decided to build something else around it. I think it's a lovely piece of miniature, in fact it's a pencil sharpener, and I bought it from a flea market in Barcelona nearly ten years ago.
And indeed there's some need for a stove up here in the north!! June was rubbish weather wise, and alas! the beginning of July is not looking any better... If you've got too much sunshine in your life, please send some over here too!

Tärkeintä on puutarhanhoito...

...eikä silläkään ole juuri väliä, sanotaan.
Tänään rohkenin vihdoin uhmata kylmiä öitä ja istutin yrttini parvekkeelle puiseen viinilaatikkoon. Ostin multaa (liian vähän) ja istutin lehtisellerin (uusi tuttavuus) suoraan puutarhavajani oven eteen, joten nähtäväksi jää mitä uusi tuttavuus tykkää muutosta heti muutaman päivän jälkeen. Siis sitten kun olen ostanut lisää multaa, kun olen rakentanut terassin vajan ympärille, rakentanut minigrillin jne, jne...
Viikon kuluttua alkaa 1:1 elämässä kesäloma ja jos säät jatkuvat yhtä koleina ja sateisina kuin tähän asti, saan varmasti paljon aikaiseksi minirakennuspuuhissa.. Niinpä niin ja jetsulleen jees!
