And then there were

... a pair!

These are the very first pieces of miniature furniture I've ever made. I'm ever so happy I happened to buy that old, alas half broken chair, because with it as a model, I managed to make something really nice, I think.
The original chair had no legs, so I must use my imagination and make legs to these new chairs in the near future, but otherwise I'm very pleased with these! Managed to make these gives me hope that I'll manage to finish the miniature house of mine some day soon... Cheers!

The other half

Hello there!

Tonight I've been making the other pair of my miniature armchairs. In case you're interested, in this picture you can see nearly all the elements of the chairs. The body is made of wood. Also the sitting pillow is made of wood and to shape it, I used a lot of sandpaper and sandpaper and sandpaper... On the top of the sitting pillow I glued a piece of felt and on the back of the upholstery fabric I ironed a piece of buckram.
So far so good!
The upholstery fabric is thin cotton, easy to handle but all those stripes made me a bit anxious... It was a bit difficult but necessary to get those stripes even and it was necessary but difficult to avoid all the thick folds on the bottom! I used some tacky glue for all the fabrics and ordinary wood glue for wooden parts.

So! Now it's time to take my four-legged muse out for a walk and see after a while if the armrests fit!

Ymmärrän, että kuvat työni eri vaiheista eivät ole maailman mielenkiintoisimpia, mutta dokumentoinkin niitä lähinnä omaksi ilokseni ja muistutukseksi siitä mitä tuli tehtyä...

Nojatuoliprojekti on edistynyt väärästä kangasvalinnasta oikeaan, tosin samalla haastavampaan.
Kiertelin kangaskaupassa juuri ennen sen sulkeutumista sen näköisenä, että kukaan ei poistu ennen kuin oikea kangas on löytynyt! No löytyihän se, mutta kotona alkoi hieman hirvittää.

En ole luonteeltani millään lailla perfektionisti, mutta kyllä minäkin nipotan, kun verhoilusta on kyse! Selkänojan tyynyt tein softasta. Liimasin ensin (softa)palojen päälle noin 0,5 cm paksua huopalevyä  ja päällikankaan nurjalle puolelle silitin liimaharson palaset selkänojien tyynyjen ryhdiksi. (Samalla sain huovan pienet epätaisuudet siliämään).
Saman käsittelyn saivat osakseen myös istuinosat kankaineen ja sitten alkoivatkin kädet hiota jännityksestä... Verhoilun alkeet ovat minulle kyllä tuttua puuhaa, mutta nuo raidat, iiik! Mittailtuani istuinosia aikani päätin lähteä soitellen sotaan ja kohdalleen ne raidatkin menivät, jes!

Nyt ensimmäisen tuolin tyynyjen liimaukset odottavat kuivumistaan ja jos oikein rohkeaksi heittäydyn, saatanpa liimata käsinojatkin paikoilleen vielä tänään!

Nyt kun joulukuuset on heitetty pois, alennusmyynnit juostu ja arki on asettunut kohdalleen, alkoi sopivasti Työväenopiston kevätlukukausi. Mikäs sen mukavampaa, on jotain järjestystä elämässä...
Jatkoin tänään siitä mihin ennen joulua jäin ja homma tuntui sujuvan epäilyttävän mutkattomasti. Maalasin nojatuolieni rungot toiseen kertaan (tänään aamupäivällä) ja sain istuinosat liimattua selkänojiin juuri maalin kuivuttua, joten so far so good!
Tuolieni mallikappaleena toimivan vanhan nojanuolin istuinosa on tehty puusta ja mietittyäni ja etsittyäni turhaan vaihtoehtoista materiaalia, päädyin minäkin muotoilemaan istuintyynyt vanhasta kunnon männystä. Parempi pyy pivossa, vai miten se nyt menikään...
Ja sitten asiaan: Juuri kun olin kansanomaisesti sanottuna kiipeämässä puuhun p...rse edellä, kuulin järjen äänen. Ohjaajammehan se siellä esitti oman mielipiteensä kupletin juonesta ja jostain kumman syystä päätin tällä kertaa kuunnella häntä. Enkä turhaan! Mittasin tulevien istuinten leveyden ja syvyyden, piirsin palikan kumpaankin päähän kaavat tulevista istuintyynyistä ja annoin palaa! Siis annoin palaa nauhahiomakoneella, ja sehän kannatti! Hioin melkein sormenjälkeni historiaan, mutta niistä viis, lopputulos oli täydellinen. Vielä pieni käynti vannesahalla ja voilà! Kaksi identtistä istuintyynyä, jotka odottavat vain verhoilua!
Jepulis,  joskus elämä on näpertämisen ja neuvojen kuuntelemisen arvoista!

Our neighbourhood on Christmas day 

Dear readers!

Hopefully you all have had a fantastic Christmas time and are all ready to welcome the new year!

My new year is beginning with some change because I resigned from my day job, which turned into very miserable during this autumn. Tomorrow, on the last day of the year will be also my last day at work and 1st January I'll be a Lady of Leisure (read: unemployed). Very exciting, I say! I've visited a job center only once before, but there it is I'll find myself in the beginning of January...

This autumn has  been very stressful and I haven't had the energy nor time to do much miniature things, but I've certainly enjoyed your woks! I've read various blogs and admired your fantastic skills! So I hope that all of you will keep well and carry on! Thanks for bringing so much happiness into my tiny life!

Hello there!

Today I literally had to drag myself to our miniature workshop... My god! How much darker and shorter can a day get!? Since we got rid of the snow, November is showing its' true nature and it's not pleasant...
Anyway! Because I don't want to think about any miniature stairs building, or anything else too complicated  now, I decided to think and try something smaller instead: armchairs (and perhaps a settee too)!
Some years ago I bought this old miniature armchair. Isn't it an absolute beauty! There was some old (and loose) rattan in/between the armrests and as I took them  away, the armrest broke to pieces of course. Well, that was good, I think, because only then I could really see the beauty of this chair! I just love it and want to use it as a model to my my future miniature house's (living room's) furniture.

Today I also got acquainted with a new machine: jigsaw. What a machine!! I gut four armrests of 4 mm plywood in no time at all and will finish them by dremel at home very soon. I also managed to cut the blade twice within ten minutes so November? Well, it's not too bad after all!
